Chapter 5 of 7
Getting started on NEPSE
NEPSE gains come in short bursts between long flat stretches. Set up once, then invest a little every month.
Seven steps to open your accounts
- Open a demat account (BOID) with any depository participant: a bank’s capital arm or a broker.
- Get a MeroShare login from the same DP. Set your password and a transaction PIN.
- Get a CRN from your bank’s C-ASBA desk. It links your bank account to MeroShare for IPOs.
- Open a broker account for a TMS login. Commissions are fixed, so choose a reliable broker.
- Load collateral into TMS by bank transfer. Use only your own money; do not borrow.
- Buy with limit orders. After you sell, approve the delivery (EDIS) in MeroShare the same day.
- Apply to every IPO through MeroShare. The money is only blocked, not spent, until the lottery.
Is it a fit for you?
- You keep an emergency fund outside the market.
- This money can stay invested for three years or more.
- You can watch a 40% paper loss without selling. It has happened three times since 2010.
- You will not borrow to invest.
- You start small, add every month, and spread across sectors.
